New class

MFP & MG at Madera

MFP event at Garden of the Sun

The Mariposa Master Food Preservers had their first event at Fresno Garden of the Sun.
The graduating class came and gave presentations.
On August 6th, local graduates (4 of whom are also MGs) of the first class of Master Food Preservers from the Mariposa County Extension office held an information session for the public at the Garden of the Sun. The program, (which includes Fresno, Madera, Merced, Mariposa and Tuolumne county residents) is a new opportunity for Central California and Foothill residents to become Master Food Preservers.
Similar to the MG program, this is another program sponsored by the UC-Extension system, training volunteers to assist in public education. Several informational displays were offered, as well as the opportunity for the public to ask food preservation questions. They also tested a pressure gauge brought by a local resident, a service which is offered by County Extension offices and should be done annually for those with gauge pressure canners.
Further events are planned, including informational tables at surrounding county fairs and ideally an opportunity to offer hands on experiences for the public. Stay tuned!

Preserve today, relish tomorrow
The UC Master Food Preserver Program is an example of an effective partnership between the UC Division and passionate volunteers. In exchange for extensive training on home food preservation from the University, UC Master Food Preservers offer volunteer services and outreach to the general public in 17 California counties. Last year 447 UC Master Food Preservers donated more than 18,908 volunteer hours!
To reduce the rate and risk of community spread of COVID-19, the UC Master Food Preserver Program, UC ANR, and UC Cooperative Extension locations are working remotely. UC Master Food Preserver volunteers are still available to support your home food preservation questions by email, telephone or Zoom. Please contact your local program to find out updates and availability.
