Madera residents use this application only for the new training class in Merced. 

Want to be a Madera Master Gardner?

Do you love to garden? Are you willing to share your knowledge with the community? If so, the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are accepting applications for the 2020 training year deadline is October 25, 2019. The UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners in Merced County are hosting the training. See UCCE Merced site for more information click on this link. 

Who can be a Master Gardener?

Any Madera County adult resident with an interest in horticulture and public service may apply for the Master Gardener Program. You must have the time to complete the training course. You must have a passion for gardening, good communications skills and be willing to share your knowledge with the public.

Is there a fee for the training? 

The fee to cover training and resource materials for the 2020 training will be posted soon. DOJ clearance and completed application required.

What is the commitment to the program once certification is achieved?

New Master Gardeners are required to contribute 50 hours of hands-on-training during the first 18 months of service. In subsequent years, Master Gardeners are required to contribute 25 hours of volunteer service and 12 hours of continuing education. Continuing education opportunities are provided through the program

New Training for Master Gardener program

Madera Master Gardner program have the option to send prospective students to the training classes in Fresno or Merced every other year. In year 2020 the training classes for new master gardeners will be held in Merced at the UCCE office on Wardrobe Ave.

  • It will start on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 and be held every Wednesday until the first of April. 
  • Time of the class:  2-6 PM
  • There will be two Saturday classes (January 18, 2020 and March 7, 2020) and graduation will be held on a Saturday.
  • Merced County applications are due on October 25, 2019
  • If you are a Madera resident wanting to become a Madera Master Gardener you must fill out the Madera application on our website.  But attend the class in Merced starting in January 2020. 

Merced Master Gardener program will hold an orientation session for prospective applicants on Sept 7 and 21st. Starting at 12:00 following one of their workshops. See Merced website for information also posted.

Madera Master Gardner program will hold a Meet the Madera Master gardener orientation at the Three Sisters Demonstration garden. September 19, 2019. 

Merced Master Gardener program is going to incorporate lots of hands on learning for the students which is part of the reason for the Saturday sessions.  By adding to Saturdays we hope to have the class end very early in April.

(Parking on campus is available in 3 parking lots: Parking Lot A, Parking Lot B, and Parking Lot C. Daily parking lot passes are available for $1.00 from our parking lot kiosks.)

Most MG work in the garden on Tuesday around 9:00 am You are welcome to stop by and see what is going on the garden.
